Sabbatical

Hello everyone, and a belated Happy New Year!

I’ve had a couple of questions about the lack of activity on the blog so far in 2022 and I think it’s only fair that provide an update.

I’ve decided to take a step back from blogging for a while.

There are a number of reasons for this and the combination of them make this the right time to take a break.

Over the last six months I’ve finally taken a decisive step towards writing a book. The summer was a very productive time for me in this respect as I had plenty of time to do some of my research, sketch out a framework and complete a couple of sample chapters. However, since the football season started up and I went back to work, I’ve found it difficult to juggle the demands of a full-time teaching job, which requires significant amounts of work outside the classroom, with two different writing commitments.

I’ve mostly used the Christmas holidays as a chance to switch off and refocus ahead of the new year – not entirely voluntarily, but when you’re in Covid-19 isolation, there aren’t too many alternatives! It’s given me a chance to put things in perspective and I feel my energies are best directed towards a different project.

After three-and-a-half years of regular posting, a break might be beneficial for the blog as well. I’ve felt my creative juices running a little low in the last couple of months and the idea of producing a new piece of content every week has begun to feel like a chore. Which isn’t what I really want for something I use as a hobby/creative outlet.

The site will obviously remain online and I’ll attempt to maintain a social media presence on Twitter and Instagram during this hiatus and keep the site map up to date with any new grounds I visit (I won’t be giving up going to football after all) and I’m sure the occasional update will make its way onto the site.

So until next time, whenever that is,

All the best,

Andrew
