2021/22 in Pictures: Games 11 and 12

The second half of October saw me visit a couple of new grounds in the Communidad de Madrid, with wildly differing results!

Game 1️⃣1️⃣

⚽️ EF Concepción 0-0 CUC Villalba

🏟 Polideportivo Municipal de la Concepción, Madrid

🏆 Madrid Preferente, Group 1

📅 17.10.2021

💶 Free Entry

I decided to pay a visit to somewhere new on 17th October and after a bit of research online, I settled on EF Concepción v CUC Villalba, two teams battling near the top of the Preferente, with the added advantage of being not too far away from home.

Unfortunately, the action on the pitch proved to be spectacularly unmemorable with the two sides cancelling each other out. The home side hit the bar in the first half and Villalba had a goal ruled out for offside – it looked to be a very close call, but aside from those major incidents, things were mostly quiet until a late flurry which saw the ball bouncing from end to end as both sides desperately searched for a breakthrough.

Amenities Watch: There’s nothing inside the ground except for some vending machines near the entrance and even nipping out to go to a bar at half time is a bit of a stretch as the closest ones are all on the far side from the gate. Unsurprisingly, there’s no merchandise either, though I did like Concepción’s purple shirt.

Match Rating: 3/10 – This isn’t one which will live long in the memory. I’ve already forgotten most of it.

Game 1️⃣2️⃣

⚽️ Getafe B 4-0 Villaverde-San Andrés

🏟 Ciudad Deportiva Getafe, Getafe

🏆 Tercera RFEF, Group 7

📅 24.10.2021

💶 €15

Another week, another new ground. This time, I made my first visit to the Ciudad Deportiva Getafe to catch up with Vilaverde for the first time since the start of September. And promptly saw them crash to their biggest defeat of the season after paying €15 for the privilege. Maybe I should have stayed away?

It was a beautiful sunny morning in Madrid, which made the walk from the Cercanias station to the ground all the more pleasant. The Ciudad Deportiva is tucked away behind the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez (a place I have to try to get back to this season) and I was able to find my friends in amongst the travelling Villaverde fans in plenty of time for kick off.

Unfortunately we saw a very disjointed first half performance. Botti were second to everything, passes weren’t finding their mark and it was no real surprise when Getafe B waltzed through their static defence to open the scoring.

A second arrived soon after, a great cross from the left and an emphatic finish and when Getafe broke fast and scored a third before the break, the game was effectively over as a contest.

Any slim hopes of a comeback were killed off by a fourth goal just before the hour and the game became one of damage limitation for the visitors, as well as trying their best to avoid picking up any red cards from an overly officious referee.

Amenities Watch: The Ciudad Deportiva has a pretty large bar decorated with scarves from all over Spain and beyond – my kind of place! We had a half-time drink on the terrace out front

Match Rating: 6/10 – A nice morning out but the game itself was a bit too one-sided to be enjoyable.
