This strange season continues with El Gran Derbí del Norte in my closest ground that’s actually allowing fans to attend followed by a return visit to Móstoles which didn’t go completely according to plan.
⚽️ DAV Santa Ana 0-3 Unión Adarve
🏟 Polideportivo Santa Ana, Madrid
🏆 Tercera Division Group 7
Last season I had a season ticket at the Estadio Vicente Del Bosque and Unión Adarve were my usual first choice for a game when I didn’t have any other plans. But this season their home games have been behind closed doors so this was actually my first chance to see them play this season.
Santa Ana, I had seen back in September when they were late replacements my first game of the season down in Móstoles, but there had been some odd-pitch turmoil there in the intervening weeks which meant the team that impressed me that night had been almost entirely replaced.
Adarve made a fast start and were ahead inside five minutes thanks to a header from Dani Ramos. Santa Ana weren’t overwhelmed by this early setback and forced a couple of decent saves from Victor in the visitors goal.
But Adarve’s greater quality slowly began to tell and they made it 2-0 after 32 minutes following a great cross from Cañas which gave Montejo a tap-in at the back post.
Both sides were clearly up for the contest, as you’d expect in a local derby, and there were quite a few meaty challenges flying in from both sides but the referee managed to keep control of proceedings, much to the disappointment of the home fans who chanted for red cards after every Adarve challenge.
Adarve put the game beyond any doubt after 67 minutes with a goal from Herranz. Substitutions interrupted the flow of the game after that point but Adarve’s control never looked in any doubt.
Bar Watch: The small bar under the stand was open prior to the match and I had a lukewarm café con leche to start off the day. They also had a decent range of sandwiches on offer. Sadly the bar has been cleaned out over the summer so all the memorabilia that was in there before has gone.
Shop Watch: No sign of any merchandise on sale, just as was the case when I was last there in December.
Match Rating: 8/10. As feisty as you’d expect a local derby to be, Santa Ana competed well early on, but once Adarve had gone two goals clear there was only going to be one winner.
⚽️ Móstoles CF 1-0 SAD Villaverde San-Andrés (Abandoned at Half Time)
🏟 Estadio Municipal El Soto
🏆 Tercera Division Group 7
Having already visited Móstoles back in September, I headed back for second helpings. I wanted to see El Soto in a proper game with something at stake, the allowed capacity of 600 means no anxiety about getting a ticket and of course, it’s always nice to see Botti.
Móstoles had suffered heartache during the week when they missed out on a place in the first round of the Copa Del Rey in a penalty shootout but they got an unexpected boost in the first half when Villaverde’s captain Toni sliced the ball into his own net while attempting a clearance.
There was some controversy in the first half as the home side were reduced to ten men thanks to a perhaps slightly harsh straight red being given for a late challenge. With an extra man, Botti did start to threaten and create a couple of chances. Things looked good for the second half, but nothing’s ever that simple, especially where Botti are concerned.
We suspected something was amiss when no one had emerged from the changing rooms for the second half by ten past one. It took a bit longer for confirmation to come through but there would be no more football played. Seemingly there had been a breach of Covid-19 protocol involving the home team and the match shouldn’t have started in the first place.
It remains to be seen what will happen with the rest of the game, whether the second half will be played at a later date or whether Villaverde will be given a walkover. It’s been quite a long time since I was at an abandoned match and it’s not an experience I’ll be looking to repeat any time soon – especially if refunds aren’t being given out!
Bar Watch: As was the case in September, the stadium bar remained closed, though this time the bar at the neighbouring Iker Casillas pitches was open.
Shop Watch: No sign of any merchandise on sale again.
Match Rating: Not really sure a rating is appropriate for this game. The first half was largely uninspiring but things were set up for an interesting second half.
